The Wassa East District Assembly has been crowned the Best Performing Procuring Entity in the Western Region, emerging top among 14 participating Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) during the presentation of the 2026 CoST Sekondi-Takoradi Independent Review Report held at Akroma Plaza.
The prestigious accolade, which recognizes the Assembly’s outstanding performance in procurement transparency and accountability, was received on behalf of the assembly by the District Chief Executive, Hon. Alhassan Ibrahim, who expressed profound gratitude to the management and staff for their committed dedication.
According to the 2026 Independent Review Report presented by the CoST Sekondi-Takoradi initiative, the Wassa East District Assembly recorded the highest publication and disclosure performance among all participating MMDAs in the region, setting a new benchmark for procurement excellence.
Hon. Alhassan Ibrahim, speaking moments after receiving the award, described the recognition as a testament to the collective commitment of his administration to sound financial management and value for money.
“This achievement is not mine alone but a reflection of the hard work and dedication of our management, staff, and stakeholders who have worked tirelessly to ensure that our procurement processes meet the highest standards of transparency,” Hon. Ibrahim stated.
The CoST initiative, an international multi-stakeholder program that promotes transparency and accountability in public infrastructure investments, conducts independent reviews to assess the performance of procuring entities across the country. The Sekondi-Takoradi chapter has been instrumental in driving reforms in public procurement within the Western Region.
The award places Wassa East District Assembly at the forefront of Ghana’s local governance reform agenda, particularly in the area of public financial management. The Assembly’s commitment to disclosing procurement information has not only earned them national recognition but also strengthened public trust in the district’s governance systems.
Industry observers have noted that the Assembly’s exemplary performance could serve as a model for other MMDAs seeking to improve their procurement practices and enhance citizen engagement through transparency.
