Wassa East DCE Launches Grassroots Tour, Pledges Schools, CHIPS COMPOUND, and Boreholes for 2025

In a bold shift from top-down administration, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Wassa East, Hon. Alhassan Ibrahim, has committed to spending three working days each week on a comprehensive tour of the district’s over 200 communities. The initiative aims to bring governance directly to the people, eliminating the need for residents to undertake long and costly journeys to the district capital, Daboase, to voice their development concerns.

The move is designed to strengthen citizen engagement, allow for the firsthand collection of community needs, and outline the government’s priorities directly to local leaders and residents.

During a separate engagement with the Chiefs and residents of Wassa Abaase, Sarponsu No.1 and 2, Wassa Agave, Hemanso, Asatrase, Appeasuman, New and Old Subri, Togbe Krom, and Ateiku, Hon. Ibrahim detailed several flagship national programs. He announced initiatives including the ‘Feed Ghana’ agricultural campaign, plans for 24-hour markets nationwide, and the Youth Employment and National Apprenticeship programmes.

Elaborating on the ‘Feed Ghana’ agenda, the DCE explained that it encompasses multiple areas of agriculture, such as the “Nkoko Nnkitikiti” and other ruminant projects. He urged institutions like churches and schools to form commodity cooperatives and apply to benefit from the programmme, emphasizing its role in ensuring national food security and sustainability.

Looking ahead to 2025, Hon. Ibrahim unveiled concrete development plans for the district. He announced that the Assembly will construct four new educational facilities comprising two Junior High Schools, one Primary school, and a Kindergarten as well as two CHPS compounds and ten new boreholes. In a significant move towards continuity, he also assured communities that all uncompleted projects initiated by the previous administration have been captured as legacy projects and will be completed.

The traditional leaders and community members expressed profound appreciation for the DCE’s hands-on approach. After highlighting specific challenges such as water shortages and inadequate educational infrastructure, they offered their support and prayers for a successful and cohesive administration.

The DCE was accompanied on his tour by a high-level delegation including the Presiding Member of the Assembly, Hon. Stephen Kuma Angu; the Coordinating Director, Mr. Evans Mark Andoh; the Assistant Director I, Mr. Kwabena Achampong; the District Engineer, Mr. Michael Bayor; and the District Information Officer, Mr. Frank Kwabena Danso. Planning and Budget Officers, some Assembly Members, and NDC constituency officials were also part of the delegation.
